How fast is it possible to type
The fact is that less than half the population of the world has the manual dexterity to wiggle their fingers at the speed of 50 words per minute or better. Computer professionals often seem to have unrealistically high expectations of what the so-called average typist can do. People often say that decent typists type 120 words per minute (WPM), but 120 WPM means 12 strokes a second, or a split-time of 83mesc between keypresses. That borders on the physically impossible. The truth is that only about 7% of all typists are capable to type more than 70 WPM, while most people have limit around 40. Another thing to take into account is how many words are typed correctly and how many are wrong, studies have shown that it is quite normal with an average error-rate of about 6% per word. Put that another way, more then 1 out of every 17 words has a typo in it, which is kind of a big deal.
